Role Overview
A leading provider of critical environment services is seeking a Critical Shift Engineer to support the operation and maintenance of a high-availability facility in London.
The role is responsible for maintaining operational reliability of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, ensuring environmental conditions are maintained and risks to uptime are mitigated.
The successful candidate will carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and fault finding across critical building systems including UPS, generators, HV/LV electrical systems, PDUs and cooling infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across electrical and mechanical plant in accordance with site schedules and asset registers.
Carry out reactive maintenance and fault diagnosis to maintain critical systems in operational condition.
Operate in accordance with site operational procedures (EOPs) and escalate incidents when required.
Monitor and maintain critical infrastructure systems, ensuring environmental conditions remain within operational parameters.
Identify plant faults or defects and ensure they are rectified quickly to minimise operational risk.
Ensure appropriate spare parts and materials are available to support maintenance activities.
Complete all maintenance documentation and reporting through the relevant maintenance management systems.
Prepare and follow Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for all tasks.
Operate within a permit-to-work system, with the opportunity to undertake Authorised Person dutiesfollowing training.
Maintain accurate shift logs and operational records.
Supervise and coordinate specialist contractors and vendors carrying out maintenance activities.
Ensure plant rooms and operational areas remain secure, clean and compliant.
Support team members and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, contractors and client representatives.
Provide shift handover and operational continuity to incoming engineering teams.
Accountabilities
Responsible for the safe and reliable operation of critical infrastructure systems within the facility.
Accountable to the Contract Manager and Technical Manager.
No direct line management responsibilities.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Time-served electrical apprenticeship or equivalent qualification within a critical, industrial, commercial or manufacturing environment.
Experience operating and maintaining critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
Strong experience with:
UPS systems
Generator systems
HV/LV electrical distribution
PDUs
CRAC / cooling systems or equivalent
Experience performing PPM and reactive maintenance in a live environment.
Understanding of permit-to-work systems, risk assessments and safety procedures.
Experience working with BMS systems for plant monitoring and alarm investigation.
Good communication skills and ability to work within shift-based engineering teams.
Desirable:
Experience carrying out ACB switching at main distribution boards.
Experience operating UPS mode changes (maintenance bypass, startup etc.).
Knowledge of critical cooling systems and environmental controls.
Familiarity with SLA / KPI-driven environments.
Electrical testing qualifications such as C&G 2391.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office systems.
